Whether you’re applying from within the country or overseas, this guide explains how to get a birth certificate in Timor-Leste, including required documents, processing time, and embassy assistance.

Step 1: Apply at the Local Civil Registry Office

To apply in person in Timor-Leste:

  • Go to your nearest civil registry office
  • Bring valid identification (e.g., passport or national ID)
  • Submit a written request stating the full name, date of birth, and names of parents of the person whose certificate is requested
  • Pay the applicable application fee
  • Wait for the registrar to advise you when the document will be ready for pickup
