Fuliza Interest Rates on Loans and How to Calculate Repayment

Imagine this: you’re about to pay rent or buy lunch, but your M-Pesa balance is zero. Don’t panic—Fuliza is here to save the day. It’s Safaricom’s overdraft service that lets you borrow money instantly when your M-Pesa runs dry. You don’t need any paperwork, and it kicks in automatically when you need it most.

What is Fuliza?

Fuliza is a service that lets you borrow money to complete your M-Pesa transactions when you don’t have enough balance. Here’s how it works:

  1. Opt-in to Fuliza once.
  2. Safaricom gives you a daily limit.
  3. If your balance is insufficient, Fuliza covers the difference.
  4. You repay automatically when money is added to your M-Pesa balance.

For example, if you need KES 500 but only have KES 200, Fuliza covers the KES 300 you’re short, so the transaction goes through without issues.

How to Opt-In for Fuliza

You need to opt in before you can start using Fuliza. Here’s how to do it:

Method 1: USSD Registration (Fastest Option)

  1. Dial *334# from your Safaricom line.
  2. Select Fuliza M-PESA.
  3. Tap Opt-in.
  4. Accept the terms and conditions.
  5. You’re good to go!

Tip: You must be an active M-Pesa user for Fuliza to work. If your line isn’t M-Pesa-enabled, it won’t work.

Method 2: Using the M-Pesa App (For App Lovers)

  1. Download the M-Pesa App from Google Play Store or iOS App Store.
  2. Open the app and log in with your Safaricom number.
  3. Tap on the Grow section.
  4. Select Fuliza and opt in.
  5. Your Fuliza limit will show up immediately.

Why it matters: If you’re trying to avoid USSD menus, the M-Pesa app gives you a smooth and easy way to opt in and check your limit.

How to Use Fuliza

Once you’re opted in, Fuliza works automatically. Here’s how it works in practice:

  1. You try to send KES 1,000, but you only have KES 400.
  2. Fuliza covers the KES 600 you’re short.
  3. The transaction goes through, and you’re good to go!

Tip: Be mindful of your limit, as Fuliza will reduce the amount available in your M-Pesa account.

When Fuliza Makes Sense

Fuliza is super useful for covering small, emergency expenses such as:

  • Emergency transport when you’re stranded.
  • Urgent bills that can’t wait.
  • Business payments that need to happen now.
  • Medical emergencies.

However, it’s not ideal for:

  • Buying things you don’t really need.
  • Covering expenses you can’t afford to pay back.
  • Regular monthly expenses (it’s better to budget better).

Fuliza vs Other Loan Options

Fuliza Pros:

  • Instant approval and access.
  • No paperwork or long waiting times.
  • Works with any M-Pesa transaction.
  • Automatic repayment.

Fuliza Cons:

  • Higher fees than some alternatives.
  • Easy to overspend without realizing.
  • Reduces your available M-Pesa limit.

Alternatives:

  • KCB M-Pesa: Lower fees, longer repayment terms.
  • Tala or Branch: Larger loans with longer repayment.
  • Asking family or friends: Free, but awkward.

What if You Want to Opt Out of Fuliza?

If you no longer want to use Fuliza, you can opt out easily.

  1. Dial *334#.
  2. Select Fuliza M-PESA.
  3. Choose Opt-out and confirm.

Tip: Before opting out, make sure you’ve cleared any outstanding balance. Safaricom won’t let you opt out if you still owe them money.

For more details, check out this guide on how to opt out of Fuliza.

Why Knowing How to Fuliza Helps

Understanding how to Fuliza can save you from stressful situations. Whether you’re paying for a transaction, topping up, or sending money, Fuliza ensures you don’t get stuck when your balance runs low.

Just keep in mind that Fuliza should be a temporary fix, not your regular way of handling money. Use it wisely to avoid unnecessary fees.

Now that you know how to Fuliza, share this guide with others and make sure you stay ahead the next time your M-Pesa balance runs low!
