How to Confirm Your Kenya Power Electricity Bill is Correct

At times, your Kenya Power electricity bill may seem higher or lower than expected. Whether you’re a post-pay or pre-pay customer, ensuring that the bill reflects your actual usage is important to avoid overcharging.

Kenya Power has streamlined the process of confirming whether your bill is correct. This guide explains the steps for both post-pay and pre-pay customers to confirm their electricity consumption and resolve any discrepancies.

Process of How to Confirm Your Kenya Power Electricity Bill is Correct

1. Send a Picture of Your Meter Reading

For post-pay customers, the first step is to ensure that the bill aligns with your actual meter reading. Here’s how to start the process:

  • Take a clear photo of your meter reading, ensuring the digits are visible.
  • Ensure the meter number is also visible to match your account.
  • Send the picture via WhatsApp to 0702 977 977, which is Kenya Power’s official number for queries.

Once your picture is received, Kenya Power will begin the verification process to compare your meter reading with the bill.

2. Booking Your Case for Verification

After submitting your meter reading, you will receive a 15-digit reference code from Kenya Power. This code tracks the progress of your verification. You do not need to follow up immediately, as the company will assess your case.

If an error is identified, Kenya Power will adjust the bill accordingly.

3. Site Visit for Physical Confirmation

In some cases, if the photo is unclear or additional inspection is necessary, Kenya Power may schedule a site visit. A technician will visit your home or office to physically verify the meter reading. This step is arranged promptly if required.

How Pre-Pay Customers Can Confirm Their Kenya Power Bill

Unlike post-pay customers, pre-pay customers don’t receive a bill but may notice discrepancies when purchasing tokens. Here’s what you need to know:

Understanding Token Pricing for Pre-Pay Customers:

Kenya Power uses a tiered pricing system based on your monthly electricity consumption:

  • Under 30 units/month: Ksh 12.23 per unit
  • 30-100 units/month: Ksh 16.45 per unit
  • 101-15,000 units/month: Ksh 19.02 per unit

If your consumption increases, the rate per unit may go up, meaning you’ll receive fewer tokens for the same amount of money. To confirm if you are being charged correctly, always check your meter reading and compare your token rates with the tiered pricing system.

Wrapping Up

Verifying your Kenya Power bill is an essential step in ensuring that you’re being charged accurately. Whether you’re a post-pay or pre-pay customer, you can use simple steps like sending a meter photo or reviewing your token rates to confirm your electricity bill’s accuracy.

  • Post-pay customers: Send a photo of your meter reading to Kenya Power for verification.
  • Pre-pay customers: Check your usage patterns and compare them with Kenya Power’s tiered pricing.

By following these steps, you can confidently confirm your bill and address any discrepancies efficiently.
