If you’ve misplaced your KRA PIN or need to retrieve it using your ID number, there are several methods available to you. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) provides several options for retrieving your PIN, whether online or in person. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the most effective ways to access your KRA PIN.

  • Option 1: KRA Self-Service Channels (IVR & USSD)
    • By Phone (IVR)
    • Using USSD
  • Option 2: Email KRA Support
  • Option 3: Visit a KRA Office or Huduma Centre
  • Option 4: Through Your iTax Account (If You Know Your PIN/Password)
  • Important Note:
  • Conclusion

Option 1: KRA Self-Service Channels (IVR & USSD)

KRA has simplified the process of PIN retrieval with automated self-service options. If your account is updated on the iTax system, you can retrieve your KRA PIN through either phone or USSD. Here’s how:

By Phone (IVR)

  1. Dial the KRA Call Centre: Call either of the following numbers:
    • 020 4999 999
    • 0711 099 999
  2. Follow the Self-Service Prompts: Once connected, listen to the instructions and select the option for retrieving your KRA PIN. You will be asked to provide your details, including your ID number.
  3. Receive Your PIN: After successfully following the prompts, your PIN will be sent to you, typically via SMS or email.

Using USSD

  1. *Dial 222#: On your mobile phone, dial *222#.
  2. Follow the Menu Prompts: You will be guided through a series of options to access KRA services. Select the option for PIN retrieval.
  3. PIN Retrieval: The system will prompt you to confirm your details, and your PIN will be sent directly to your mobile phone.

This method is ideal for those who prefer using their mobile devices for quick access to KRA services.

Option 2: Email KRA Support

If you cannot access the self-service channels or prefer to use email, you can send a request to the KRA Call Centre. To retrieve your KRA PIN via email, follow these steps:

  1. Prepare Your ID: Scan a clear copy of both sides of your national ID.
  2. Email the KRA Call Centre: Send an email to either of the following KRA support addresses:
    • [email protected]
    • [email protected]
  3. Request Your PIN: In the email body, request your KRA PIN and include your correct email address where the PIN certificate should be sent.
  4. Attach Your ID Scan: Make sure to attach the scanned copy of your ID as requested by KRA. This will help verify your identity.
  5. Wait for the Response: KRA will process your request and send your PIN certificate to the email address you provided.

This method is ideal for those who may not have access to the self-service channels but have access to email.

Option 3: Visit a KRA Office or Huduma Centre

For those who prefer in-person assistance, you can visit a KRA office or a Huduma Centre. Here’s how:

  1. Prepare Your ID: Take your original national ID card with you.
  2. Visit the Nearest KRA Office or Huduma Centre: You can find KRA offices and Huduma Centres across Kenya. Use the KRA office locator for the nearest office.
  3. Request PIN Retrieval: At the office, a KRA officer will assist you in retrieving and printing your PIN certificate. This is a good option if you need physical documentation or face issues with online methods.

This method may take longer but provides in-person verification and support for complex issues.

Option 4: Through Your iTax Account (If You Know Your PIN/Password)

If you already have access to your KRA PIN and password, the easiest way to retrieve your PIN certificate is through the KRA iTax portal. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Log in to the iTax Portal: Visit iTax and log in using your KRA credentials (PIN and password).
  2. Go to the Registration Tab: Once logged in, navigate to the “Registration” tab on the dashboard.
  3. Select the Reprint PIN Certificate Option: Choose the “Reprint PIN Certificate” option from the dropdown menu.
  4. Select the Applicant Type: Choose “Taxpayer” and then click “Submit.”
  5. Download Your PIN Certificate: Your PIN certificate will be available for download directly from the portal. You can save or print it as needed.

This method is ideal for those who already have access to their iTax credentials and prefer to retrieve their PIN certificate instantly.

Important Note:

The public KRA PIN Checker tool does not retrieve your PIN from just your ID number. It only verifies if a known PIN is genuine and active. Therefore, you must use one of the above methods to obtain your PIN.

Conclusion

Retrieving your KRA PIN is straightforward, with multiple methods available depending on your preferences. Whether you choose to use KRA’s self-service channels, email support, visit an office, or use your iTax account, there is a convenient option for everyone. Always ensure your personal details are accurate when requesting your PIN, and keep your PIN secure to prevent identity theft.

For further assistance, visit the KRA website or contact the KRA Call Centre directly.
