Hon. Elijah Njoroge, commonly known as Kururia, is the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Gatundu North Constituency in Kiambu County, Kenya. He was elected as an independent candidate in the August 2022 general elections, serving a term from August 16, 2022, to July 29, 2027.
Before his tenure as MP, Hon. Njoroge served as the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Biashara Ward in Kiambu County. His political journey is notable for his transition from a pianist at Jesus Winner Ministry in Nairobi to a parliamentarian. In 2013, he played the piano during a prayer event attended by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and then-Deputy President William Ruto.
In October 2022, Hon. Njoroge advocated for renaming Gatundu North Constituency to either Mang’u, Kamwangi, or Chania. He argued that the current name led to underdevelopment, as national government projects were often concentrated in Gatundu South, the home of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In May 2024, Hon. Njoroge was among several MPs summoned for questioning by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over a violent incident in Thika Town that resulted in the death of a boda boda rider. He and his Thika Town counterpart, Alice Ng’ang’a, denied involvement in the shooting and surrendered their licensed firearms for ballistic testing.
Hon. Njoroge’s background is marked by humble beginnings. Born in 1987 to a 17-year-old mother in Gakoe, Kiambu County, he was the firstborn in a family of six. His mother was a tea picker, and his father worked as a cook at Gakoe Secondary School. Despite economic hardships, he completed his education and ventured into politics, becoming one of the youngest and most flamboyant legislators in the country.
