What Is Haim Saban’s Net Worth?

Haim Saban is an Egyptian-born Israeli-American television and media mogul with a net worth of $3 billion. Despite having donated around $1 billion to charity, he amassed his wealth through ventures such as founding Saban Entertainment and composing iconic theme songs for children’s TV series like “Inspector Gadget” and “He-Man.” Saban also produced Western adaptations of Japanese cartoons, notably “Power Rangers” and “VR Troopers.”

Saban’s major financial successes include selling the Power Rangers’ intellectual property rights to Hasbro for $522 million in 2019 and selling Fox Family Channel to Disney for $5.3 billion in 2001. In 2007, Saban and a group of investors acquired Univision for $13.7 billion.

Early Life

Haim Saban was born on October 15, 1944, in Alexandria, Egypt. Coming from an Egyptian-Jewish family, he immigrated to Israel in 1956. Saban’s parents enrolled him in a Youth Aliyah boarding school, but he was expelled and later attended night school, where a principal remarked he was destined for making money rather than academic studies. Saban later served in the Israel Defense Forces.

Music Career

Saban’s music career began in 1966 as the manager and bassist for The Lions of Judah. In 1969, the band traveled to London and signed with Polydor Records. After returning to Israel, Saban focused on music promotion. In 1983, he moved to the U.S., where he composed music for children’s TV shows with Shuki Levy, contributing to projects like “Dragon Quest,” “Inspector Gadget,” and “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” By 2008, Saban was credited with composing 3,700 works, though some composers contested these claims.

Business Career

In 1988, Saban founded Saban Entertainment, producing over 70 projects, including “Power Rangers” and “VR Troopers.” In 1996, Saban Entertainment merged with Fox Children’s Network, forming Fox Kids Worldwide. In 2001, the company was sold to Disney for $5.3 billion, earning Saban a significant profit.

In 2003, Saban led a consortium to acquire a controlling stake in Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 Media, later selling it for a substantial profit. In 2006, Saban Capital Group and partners bought Univision for $13.7 billion, selling a 64% stake in 2020. In 2019, Saban launched Saban Music Group to focus on global artists and the development of new talent.

Personal Life

Haim Saban married Cheryl Lynn Flor in 1987, and they have two children, Ness and Tanya. Cheryl is a screenwriter and producer, and Ness followed his parents’ footsteps as a producer. Saban is also a stepfather to Cheryl’s daughters, Tifanie Christun and Heidi Lenhart. Saban has been a major donor to the U.S. Democratic Party, hosting fundraisers for political figures like Hillary Clinton.

Philanthropy

Haim and Cheryl Saban have donated nearly $47 million to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and $11 million to the Saban Free Clinic. They also funded the Saban Center for Middle East Policy with a $13 million grant. Other significant contributions include $14 million to Soroka Medical Center in Israel and $50 million to the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum. In 2019, the Sabans donated $420 million to various causes, encouraging other billionaires to follow their lead.

Real Estate

Haim Saban owns a sprawling estate in Beverly Park, Beverly Hills, California, consisting of three lots on nearly six acres. The property includes a mansion, pool, and sports facilities, with an assessed value of $26.7 million.
