The National Assembly on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, officially approved the appointment of Gerald Nyaoma Arita as the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Deputy Governor. This followed his nomination by President William Ruto and subsequent vetting by a joint Parliamentary Committee of the Senate and National Assembly.
Parliamentary Approval Process
Kuria Kimani, chairperson of the National Assembly Finance Committee, presented the special motion supporting Nyaoma’s appointment. The motion emphasized Nyaoma’s qualifications and suitability for the role, with Parliament commending his extensive experience in the financial sector.
The motion stated, “Taking into consideration the findings of the Joint Committee of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning and the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Budget in its Report on the vetting of a nominee for appointment as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, this House approves the appointment of Mr Gerald Nyaoma Arita as the Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya.”
Parliamentary Support
Members of the National Assembly, including Suba South MP Omondi Caroli, praised Nyaoma’s impressive academic and professional background.
- Caroli noted, “If you look at his academic records, he had a first-class degree at the University of Nairobi. He has deep domain knowledge of central banking in this country.”
- Other lawmakers echoed these sentiments, describing Nyaoma as a dedicated civil servant and an experienced professional prepared to take on the role.

He was selected from an initial shortlist of six candidates identified by the Public Service Commission. - Rehema Jaldesa as Chairperson of the National Gender Equality Commission.
