The Football Kenya Federation (FKF), under the leadership of Hussein Mohammed, has secured a remarkable KES 9.1 million in revenue from ticket sales during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier between the Harambee Stars and Gabon’s national team, led by star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The high-stakes clash was held at the fully-packed Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, drawing in fans from all over the country.
Revenue Breakdown
According to FKF, the revenue was generated from three categories of ticket sales:
- 100 VVIP tickets priced at KES 10,000 each brought in KES 1,000,000
- 1,800 VIP tickets priced at KES 1,000 each contributed KES 1,800,000
- 21,000 regular tickets priced at KES 300 each generated KES 6,300,000
This totaled to KES 9,100,000, a significant amount that reflects the growing enthusiasm around Kenyan football and the effective organization of the match by the federation.
A Packed Stadium, A Proud Moment
The Nyayo National Stadium was a sea of red, green, and black as passionate fans turned up in full force to support the national team. From the VVIP section to the roaring stands, the atmosphere was electric — a clear indication that football continues to unite Kenyans and ignite national pride.
What It Means for FKF and Kenyan Football
This financial success marks a strong statement from the FKF leadership and demonstrates the commercial potential of local football when managed efficiently. It also provides a solid foundation for future investments in the sport, including youth development, infrastructure, and player welfare.
As the Harambee Stars continue their journey toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, such milestones show that Kenya not only has the talent but also the passionate fan base and organizational capacity to compete on the global stage.
