Facebook users worldwide experienced an unexpected outage on Wednesday night, February 26, as the platform became inaccessible for many. Reports began surfacing around 9 p.m., with Down Detector registering a sharp spike in complaints.
By 9:25 p.m., affected users attempting to access Facebook’s website were met with an error message reading:
“Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
Users Flock to X to Confirm the Outage
As is often the case during major social media outages, frustrated Facebook users quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm whether the issue was widespread. Posts flooded the platform with questions, memes, and reports of login failures, frozen timelines, and an inability to post or refresh feeds.
Meta Yet to Respond
As of now, Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has not provided an official explanation for the disruption. While outages are not uncommon, especially for large platforms, the sudden downtime raises questions about potential server issues, technical glitches, or updates causing unintended disruptions.
Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
