Emma Watson has shocked fans after finally addressing her long-running feud with Harry Potter author JK Rowling.
The actress, 35, and her co-star Daniel Radcliffe, 36, previously distanced themselves from Rowling following the author’s controversial essay criticising trans rights. Since then, the relationship between Rowling and the actors has remained strained, with many fans questioning whether Watson would ever publicly revisit the issue.
Speaking in a new interview, Watson admitted that while she fundamentally disagrees with Rowling’s views on gender identity, she does not believe in “cancelling” her entirely. “There is just no world in which I could ever cancel her out, or cancel that out, for anything,” Watson explained, reflecting on her years of professional collaboration with Rowling during the making of the Harry Potter films.
Watson’s remarks surprised many supporters, as they suggest she is choosing a path of reconciliation rather than outright condemnation. The actress emphasised that “no one is disposable,” even in moments of deep disagreement.
The comments come amid continued global debate around Rowling’s stance on trans rights and the wider discussion of separating creators from their work. While Watson has largely stepped away from acting in recent years, she has continued to influence cultural conversations, and her statement is likely to reignite discussions among fans of the wizarding world.
