Career Beginnings
Mazepin started his career in executive roles at Russian companies such as TNK and Sibur. From 1992 to 1993, he served as CEO of the insurance company Infistrakh, and later held positions at Belarusbank and Falkon Bank. In 1997, he became vice president of the oil company TNK and then served as deputy president of Flora Moscow Bank’s board until 1999. He later became CEO of the coal producer Kuzbassugol and the first deputy chairman of the Russian Federal Property Fund.
Business Career (2002-2006)
From 2002 to 2003, Mazepin served as president of Sibur, a subsidiary of Gazprom. During his tenure, he focused on stabilizing the company and diversifying its revenue sources. After leaving Sibur, he founded Constructive Bureau in 2004, acquiring stakes in several chemical companies and eventually forming Uralchem in 2007 by consolidating his assets.
Uralchem
Uralchem is a major chemical manufacturer with an annual production capacity of three million tons of ammonia and ammonium nitrate, and one million tons of fertilizers and phosphate. As chairman of Uralchem, Mazepin acquired a 75% stake in Voskresensk Mineral Fertilizers, later increasing it to 100%. In 2013, Uralchem acquired 20% of Uralkali, the world’s largest potash fertilizer producer, for around $2.9 billion. Uralchem also expanded into African markets, with developments in Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia, and Kenya.
