Catalina is the codename for macOS 10.15, an operating system developed by Apple Inc. and released in October 2019. It introduced several major changes, including the complete transition to 64-bit applications, the replacement of iTunes with separate Music, TV, and Podcasts apps, and the introduction of Sidecar, which allows an iPad to be used as a secondary display. Catalina also enhanced system security with features like read-only system volumes and Gatekeeper improvements, marking a significant shift in macOS architecture and app compatibility.
