Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspected job scammer who allegedly defrauded a job seeker of Ksh130,000 while posing as the assistant to Felix Koskei, Kenya’s Head of Public Service. The arrest occurred on Thursday, August 21, 2025, following an investigation into a fraudulent scheme targeting job seekers.
The scam reportedly began in February 2024, when a woman working in Lebanon contacted the suspect through his TikTok account, seeking a government job in Kenya. Masquerading as a key government official, the fraudster provided a convincing narrative, complete with a fabricated document claimed to be from the Public Service Commission (PSC).
As the scheme progressed, the suspect demanded facilitation fees, prompting the woman to send Ksh130,000 via Western Union. Despite paying the fees, she never secured the job, leading her to report the incident to DCI officers, who swiftly launched a manhunt and arrested the suspect.
The suspect is now in custody undergoing processing and awaits legal action. DCI authorities warned the public to remain vigilant against similar scams and to verify job offers through official government channels.
This case follows another incident in Eldoret last month, where two suspects were arrested for defrauding over 100 youths through a fake recruitment agency promising jobs abroad. The Eldoret suspects were apprehended on July 23 while collecting money from victims and are currently facing legal proceedings.
Kenya continues to see rising cases of online and job-related fraud, prompting law enforcement agencies to enhance monitoring and public awareness campaigns to protect citizens from financial exploitation.
