Cash App Refunds: Get Your Money Back if You’re Scammed

If you’ve been scammed on Cash App, quick action is crucial to help minimize losses and potentially recover funds. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

What to Do If You Get Scammed on Cash App

  1. Cancel the Payment:
    • Open Cash App: Go to the Activity tab.
    • Select the Payment: Find the payment in question.
    • Cancel: If the payment is still pending, tap “Cancel.” If there’s no cancellation option, the transaction has been processed.
  2. Report an Issue to Request a Refund:
    • Open Cash App: Go to the Activity tab.
    • Select the Payment: Find and select the relevant transaction.
    • Report: Tap “Completed,” then “Report an Issue.”
    • Select a Reason: Choose the reason for the refund request.
  3. File a Dispute:
    • Open Cash App: Go to the Activity tab.
    • Select the Payment: Choose the scam transaction.
    • Dispute: Tap “•••” → “Need Help & Cash App Support” → “Dispute this Transaction.”
    • Follow Up: The Cash App team will investigate and involve the card network.
  4. Flag the Transaction as a Scam:
    • Open Cash App: Tap your profile icon, then “Support.”
    • Report: Tap “Report a Payment Issue,” select the scam transaction, and follow prompts.
  5. Report and Block the User:
    • Open Cash App: Visit the scammer’s profile.
    • Report: Scroll down and tap “Report,” then follow the prompts to block the user.
  6. Notify Your Bank of Fraud:
    • Contact Your Bank: Reach out via their customer support channels or app.
    • Explain: Provide details so they can initiate their investigation or coordinate with Cash App.
  7. Freeze Your Credit:
    • If your account has been compromised, freeze your credit to stop scammers from opening new accounts with your information.
  8. Report to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC):
    • Visit the FTC website to report the scam and help prevent future incidents.

While following these steps can increase the chances of recovery, there’s no guarantee of a refund. Be proactive about protecting your financial information and recognizing scams in the future.
