The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has revoked the licenses of 155 service providers across the country following a comprehensive regulatory review conducted under the Kenya Information and Communications Act.
According to a gazette notice published on October 16, the revocations will take effect seven days from the date of publication. The notice clarified that, after this period, the affected companies will no longer be authorized to operate or provide communication services within Kenya.
“Notice is given pursuant to the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act that the Communications Authority of Kenya shall revoke the licences of the following service providers within seven days from the date of this Gazette Notice,” the statement read in part.
The CA further stated that any resources or assets allocated under the revoked licenses will automatically revert to the authority. The affected firms span major communication sectors, including Application Service Providers (ASPs), Network Facilities Providers (NFPs), and Content Service Providers (CSPs).
In total, 58 ASPs, 19 NFPs, and 78 CSPs have lost their licenses as part of this nationwide enforcement action.
Meanwhile, the authority also acknowledged six new companies that have applied for commercial communication licenses, signaling a restructuring within the industry.
“Notice is given that the following applicants have, pursuant to the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, made applications to the Communications Authority of Kenya for the grant of licences,” the gazette added.
The CA invited members of the public to submit any objections or representations regarding the listed applicants through formal letters addressed to its official communication channels.
This move underscores the authority’s ongoing efforts to enforce compliance and ensure that all communication service providers operate within the legal and technical frameworks of Kenya’s rapidly evolving ICT sector.
