Washington D.C. – June 24, 2025 | 01:45 AM EAT — U.S. President Donald J. Trump has announced what he calls a “Complete and Total Ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, bringing an official end to what he has dubbed “The 12 Day War.”
In a dramatic late-night post on Truth Social, Trump stated that both nations had agreed to halt all hostilities in a two-phase ceasefire beginning within six hours. According to the message, Iran will initiate a 12-hour ceasefire, to be reciprocated by Israel during the following 12-hour period. At the end of 24 hours, the war will be formally declared over and saluted “by the World.”
“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will,” Trump wrote, “I would like to congratulate both countries… on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR.’”

The announcement marks the first formal declaration of peace following nearly two weeks of open warfare, drone strikes, missile barrages, and naval clashes between the two bitter rivals. Trump hailed the ceasefire as a diplomatic triumph, thanking both nations for their cooperation and calling it a moment of global unity.
“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!” he declared, concluding with: “God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
The ceasefire deal reportedly comes after mounting international pressure, particularly from Turkey, China, and the European Union, who had urged an immediate end to hostilities following strikes near critical infrastructure sites and key maritime chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz.
Unclear Role of Biden Administration
While Trump claimed credit for the agreement, there has been no official confirmation from the Biden administration or from the governments of Israel and Iran at the time of this publication. White House officials have yet to comment on the legitimacy or enforcement of the ceasefire timeline outlined in Trump’s post. Complete and Total Ceasefire
The 12-Day War: A Brief Overview
The brief but intense war between Israel and Iran, now being termed the “12 Day War,” erupted following a series of escalatory military strikes, including attacks on nuclear infrastructure, oil refineries, and cyber installations. Global oil markets and diplomatic circles have been on high alert since the first missiles were launched earlier this month.
More than 1,500 casualties have been reported on both sides, with thousands more injured or displaced. The UN Security Council is expected to convene an emergency session later today to confirm the ceasefire and propose terms for monitoring compliance.
