Safaricom: Okoa Jahazi

Okoa Jahazi is a popular airtime credit service by Safaricom. It allows prepaid subscribers to borrow airtime when their balance drops below Kshs 5/-. Safaricom deducts a 10% advance fee, meaning you receive 90% of the borrowed amount.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a Safaricom Prepay subscriber
  • Must repay previous Okoa Jahazi advances on time
  • Must use an average of Kshs 500 monthly

How to Borrow:

  1. Dial *131# or 4562#
  2. Select “Auto-Okoa”
  3. Choose “Subscribe” and select the amount
  4. Receive a confirmation SMS

When your balance falls below Kshs 5/-, your selected Okoa Jahazi amount is credited automatically.

  • Must repay previous Jiokolee loans
  • To check eligibility: Dial *740# > Option 9 (Help) > Option 1 (Eligibility)

  2. Choose amount
  3. Confirm the request
  4. Receive confirmation SMS

Repayment:

  • A 10% service fee applies (e.g., borrow Kshs 50, receive Kshs 45)
