iWhistle: A Game Changer for Anonymous Reporting of Tax Offences
Have you ever witnessed tax fraud, evasion, or corruption and didn’t know where to report it safely? With iWhistle, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has provided a powerful and secure platform for anonymous reporting of tax offences.
Launched recently, iWhistle is a web-based tool that allows both KRA staff and the public to report a wide range of tax-related malpractices. These include:
- Bribery and corruption
- Tax evasion and fraud
- Conflict of interest
- Abuse of office
- Diversion of goods
- Counterfeit manufacturing
How iWhistle Works
Previously, tax-related crimes were reported via phone calls, emails, or walk-ins—methods that lacked efficiency, speed, and most importantly, anonymity.
With iWhistle:
- The system auto-generates an anonymous identity
- You can log in, submit a report, and track progress
- Your identity remains protected unless you choose to claim a reward
Rights of an Informant
When using iWhistle, whistleblowers are entitled to:
- The right to remain anonymous
- The right to protection if they are called as a witness in court
- The right to updates on the investigation’s progress
- The right to a reward, if they opt in
Reward Structure:
Informants who choose to receive a reward may get:
- 5% of taxes or duties recovered, or
- Up to KSh 2 million per case, whichever is lower
📌 Note: Once you opt for a reward, your anonymity is waived.
How to Use the iWhistle Portal
You can access the platform at https://iwhistle.kra.go.ke and click “REPORT NOW.” The system will prompt you to generate a unique anonymous account. You may include the following when submitting a report:
- Financial records or bank statements
- M-Pesa Pay Bill and Till numbers
- Personal Identification Number (PIN)
- Contact information or business location of the offender
Why iWhistle Matters
Kenya is estimated to lose over KSh 400 million annually to tax-related crimes. With iWhistle, KRA aims to seal revenue leakages caused by tax evasion and corruption, thereby improving national revenue collection and public service delivery.
The power to fight tax injustice is now in your hands—safely, anonymously, and impactfully.
