The United Pan-Africanist Movement (UPAM) has joined the global community in mourning the passing of Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as one of Africa’s greatest sons and a steadfast advocate for democracy and Pan-African unity. In a heartfelt message released by the UPAM Global Executive, the movement hailed Odinga’s lifelong dedication to justice, equality, and liberation across the African continent.
Led by President Benedicto Mbango, Vice President Dr. Priscilia Tsongwain, and Executive Administrator Iweobi Prisca Ogonna, UPAM expressed profound sorrow at the loss of a man whose voice and vision transcended borders. “Raila Odinga embodied the true spirit of African independence — a man who believed in freedom not only for his people but for all Africans,” the statement read. “He was a bridge between generations, a reformist whose courage inspired movements of resistance and renewal.”
The organization highlighted Odinga’s enduring contributions to the ideals of Pan-Africanism, noting that his leadership reflected the shared vision of unity, cooperation, and self-determination championed by historical figures like Kwame Nkrumah, Julius Nyerere, and Patrice Lumumba. His political life, marked by resilience and moral conviction, made him an international figure of hope for millions across Africa and the diaspora.
Raila Odinga’s passing, the movement noted, was not just a loss to Kenya but to the entire continent. His dedication to democratic governance and regional cooperation aligned closely with UPAM’s mission of strengthening African solidarity and promoting leadership built on integrity, service, and collective empowerment.
“His courage during times of political persecution and his determination to uphold democratic values remain a guiding light for African leaders and young people striving to transform our societies,” President Mbango stated. Dr. Tsongwain added that Odinga’s example would continue to inspire the next generation of African visionaries: “He proved that leadership is not about privilege, but about purpose — and that one man’s conviction can awaken a continent.”
Executive Administrator Iweobi Prisca Ogonna echoed the sentiments, emphasizing Odinga’s influence beyond politics. “He was a symbol of hope, not just in Kenya but across Africa. His dream of a united, self-reliant continent remains alive through the values he stood for.”
The United Pan-Africanist Movement reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Raila Odinga’s legacy through continued advocacy for democracy, education, and regional unity. In closing, the statement read: “May his light continue to guide Africa toward a future of justice, peace, and prosperity.”
