The Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) is a private chartered university located in Kampala, Uganda. Established in 2012, it has quickly grown into one of the country’s leading institutions for technology, business, and management education. UTAMU is licensed by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE), ensuring its programs meet national and international academic standards.
Location
The UTAMU campus is situated at Plot 6, Erisa Road, Kiswa, Bugoloobi, within Nakawa Division, one of Kampala’s key administrative areas. This location is just 5 kilometres east of the central business district, making it highly accessible to students across the city. Its geographical coordinates are 0°19′19″N, 32°37′17″E.
History
UTAMU was founded in 2012 by a group of Ugandan academics, with a shareholding of 27 members. In March 2013, the NCHE granted the university a license to offer degree programs. The university began with just five undergraduate courses in business and information technology but quickly expanded as demand for higher education in technology and management increased.
Today, UTAMU serves more than 1,800 students and continues to grow, positioning itself as a hub for innovative, practical, and research-driven education in Uganda.

Academics
UTAMU offers a wide variety of programs across certificate, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. While its early focus was on business and IT, the university now offers over two dozen undergraduate degrees in diverse fields.
Graduate programs include Master of Science (MSc), Master of Arts (MA), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) across multiple disciplines, with emphasis on applied research and leadership training.
The university also provides short courses, vocational programs, and executive training, targeting working professionals seeking career advancement.

- Ruth Doreen Mutebe – Ugandan accountant and corporate executive, Head of Internal Audit at Umeme Limited, who obtained her Master of Science in Computing from UTAMU.
