Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan has described tolerance, peaceful coexistence and human fraternity as core elements of the UAE’s national identity. He noted that these values flow directly from the vision of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has shaped an inclusive approach centred on mutual respect and social harmony. The minister stressed that progress in the UAE depends on collective responsibility supported by cooperation and active participation in community life.
Embracing Differences to Strengthen Society
He explained that tolerance in the UAE does not seek to remove differences but welcomes them as a foundation for peaceful coexistence. Because more than 200 nationalities live in the UAE, this philosophy helps maintain stability and belonging among diverse groups. He stated that embracing differences allows communities to work together for a better future and ensures fairness across the social landscape.
A Global Model of Human Fraternity
Sheikh Nahyan said the UAE has become a leading global model of coexistence under the guidance of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed. He highlighted the importance of community cooperation, social unity and respect for human rights and freedom of belief. This approach reflects the country’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian values and its belief that tolerance builds resilient, harmonious societies.
Ministry Initiatives Supporting National Values
The Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence works to strengthen these principles through programmes designed to support an open and welcoming society. The minister explained that the ministry operates through education, awareness campaigns and partnerships with public and private institutions. Its key initiatives include World Governments as Incubators for Tolerance, Knights of Tolerance and student-led tolerance clubs across schools and universities.
National and International Outreach
He also highlighted the annual National Festival of Tolerance and Coexistence, which brings communities together to celebrate diversity. Other initiatives such as Gardens of Tolerance and the Global Tolerance Alliance promote global cooperation, cultural understanding and peaceful engagement. These efforts support the UAE’s mission to encourage dialogue and to counter extremism wherever it arises.
Rule of Law as the Foundation
Sheikh Nahyan emphasized that the Emirati approach to tolerance begins with the rule of law. This principle ensures fairness, protects dignity and provides stability for residents and families from all backgrounds. He also noted that the UAE offers an environment where expatriate communities can preserve languages and cultural traditions while participating in a society defined by respect and compassion.
Commitment to a Unified Future
He concluded that the UAE will continue advancing its mission based on generosity, coexistence and mutual respect. The ministry remains committed to developing initiatives that reinforce the country’s humanitarian leadership. Sheikh Nahyan said that tolerance remains the foundation of peace, security and prosperity and will continue guiding national development in the years ahead.
