Samsung also gave a brief sneak peek at the impending Galaxy Ring wearable during its Unpacked event in January, when it officially unveiled the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. Since then, there has been a great deal of conjecture about when the Galaxy Ring will be formally introduced.
According to a recent source from Samsung’s native country of Korea, the Galaxy Ring will be unveiled during the upcoming Unpacked event, which is scheduled for the second part of July. It is also the location of the official unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6.
In addition to measuring blood pressure and supporting NFC payments, the Galaxy Ring will also allow ECGs. Prototyping is presently underway, with mass production scheduled to start in April or early June. It looks like eight distinct sizes will be available.
Apple has also stepped up its efforts in the smart ring market, filing more and more patents for associated technologies in anticipation of a potential future Apple Ring. Oura, which debuted its first smart ring in 2016, currently holds the top spot in the (very little) industry. Although the third version included heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking, Oura was unable to achieve the kind of market penetration that a major player like Samsung could have in the smart ring space.
