Why You Need a Tax Compliance Certificate in Kenya
Have you ever urgently needed a Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) and weren’t sure how to get it? Good news—if your taxes are filed and up to date, obtaining a TCC through iTax is now instant. This certificate is not just a document; it’s a gateway to opportunities.
A TCC is issued by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) once it confirms that you’ve filed all returns and paid all due taxes, or made an arrangement to do so. It serves as proof of your tax compliance status, which is now a requirement for many formal processes.
Why Is a TCC Important?
A Tax Compliance Certificate has become a standard requirement in Kenya for:
- Job applications, especially in government and large corporations
- Bidding for tenders, both private and public
- Importing and manufacturing excisable goods
- Business registration and renewal processes
Essentially, being tax compliant opens doors in professional, commercial, and regulatory spaces.

Validity and Renewal of the TCC

- If you have pending returns or tax arrears, the application will be rejected, and the reason will be communicated via email
Why Tax Compliance Matters
Taxes are the backbone of national development. Infrastructure projects like the SGR (Standard Gauge Railway), public roads, hospitals, and schools are funded by tax collections. By staying compliant, you actively contribute to Kenya’s progress.
If you’ve been non-compliant, it’s never too late to start doing the right thing. File your returns, pay what you owe, and enjoy the full benefits of compliance.
