Early Life and Education

Stephanie Caroline March was born on July 23, 1974, in Dallas, Texas, to Laura and John March. She grew up with her sister Charlotte and attended McCulloch Middle School and Highland Park High School. Later, she enrolled at Northwestern University, graduating in 1996 with a degree that set the stage for her acting career.

Television Career

March made her screen debut in 1997 with a guest role on Early Edition. In 2000, she joined Law & Order: SVU as ADA Alexandra Cabot, a role that made her one of the show’s defining figures. She remained a main cast member through season five, returning for later seasons in recurring and guest roles. In 2006, she reprised Cabot in the spinoff Conviction.

Her other television work includes roles on Grey’s Anatomy, 30 Rock, Rescue Me, and Happy Endings. In 2015, she played Mayor Carol Blanton in Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter. More recently, she starred in Lifetime’s A House on Fire (2021), CW’s Naomi (2022), and Harlan Coben’s Shelter (2023).

Film Career

March made her feature film debut in Chris Rock’s political comedy Head of State (2003). She followed with appearances in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), The Treatment (2006), Falling for Grace (2006), and Ricky Gervais’s The Invention of Lying (2009). Later films include Why Stop Now (2012), the horror-drama Innocence (2013), the mockumentary The Social Ones (2019), and DuVernay’s Origin (2023).

Stage Work

On stage, March made her Broadway debut in the 1999 revival of Death of a Salesman and returned in 2007 for Talk Radio. She has also performed off-Broadway, notably in Boy’s Life.

Other Endeavors

Outside acting, March co-founded SheSpoke, a bespoke cosmetics brand, with makeup artist Rebecca Perkins. She is also a philanthropist and activist, serving on boards such as the Panzi Foundation, the Gotham Film & Media Institute, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, and previously sat on the board of Planned Parenthood.

Personal Life

Stephanie March married celebrity chef Bobby Flay in 2005, appearing occasionally on his Food Network shows. The couple divorced in 2015. In 2017, she married Dan Benton, a former hedge fund manager whose firm, Andor Capital, managed billions before closing in 2008. Their combined wealth and investments have further boosted her fortune.

In 2018, March and Benton purchased a 7,000-square-foot penthouse in Manhattan’s West Village for $34.62 million. The property combined two units into one of New York City’s most luxurious residences.
