Athi River, May 10, 2024 – Police in Athi River, Machakos County, have launched a manhunt for Jackson Bamboo, 45, after the gruesome murder of his wife, Sheila Odoyo, popularly known as Sheila Wegesha. Sheila, a prominent Ohangla dancer, was found dead in her home in Hill View Estate under suspicious circumstances.
The Crime Scene
The 38-year-old’s body was discovered lying in a pool of blood on her matrimonial bed, her throat bearing deep cuts. The room showed signs of struggle, but neighbors and her children did not hear any disturbance overnight. Her immediate neighbor, Richard Chesebeh, confirmed that he didn’t hear anything until he heard the children’s cries at around 1 p.m.
The Husband as a Suspect
Police are treating Bamboo as a person of interest in the murder after he reportedly left the home silently at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday. His vehicle, a Mitsubishi Outlander, was found abandoned near Kencom in Nairobi, and it is suspected that he switched vehicles to aid his escape. His last known location was traced to Narok.
Troubled Marriage Under Investigation
The motive for the killing is yet to be determined, but detectives are following leads that suggest a troubled marriage marred by suspected infidelities. A businesswoman, Hilda Risper, stated, “A lot has been said, but we can’t know what happens between two people.”
Mourning and Memorial
Fans and loved ones have taken to social media to mourn Sheila, describing her as lively and passionate about Ohangla dance. She and Bamboo were co-owners of an entertainment establishment in Umoja, Nairobi. Risper added, “She loved organizing live bands and inviting Ohangla artists. She was full of life.”
The body of the late dancer was initially taken to Shalom Community Hospital morgue before being transferred to Chiromo morgue for an autopsy on Friday.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information about Bamboo’s whereabouts to contact the police to aid in bringing him to justice.
