Initially established as Factory Guards Limited in 1969, the group has expanded from its headquarters in Nairobi and is now well-represented throughout the security industry. SGA has more than 17,500 employees throughout the area and is present in all of the major cities of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Kenya Security Industry Association (KSIA) and Tanzania Security Industry Association (TSIA) are organizations that the corporation founded. Additionally, SGA is a member of the South African Security Association (SASA) and the Uganda Private Security Association (UPSA).
