The iconic Montecito estate, known for its appearance in the 1983 movie “Scarface” as Tony Montana’s residence, is now listed for $39.995 million. This Mediterranean Revival-style property, named “El Fureidis,” spans roughly 10 acres and was designed in the early 1900s by architect Bertram Goodhue for James Waldron Gillespie. The estate boasts Roman and Middle Eastern architectural influences, including a Byzantine-style conversation room with a fountain, a 24-karat gold leaf dining room ceiling, and a rooftop deck with views of the Pacific Ocean. The property also includes two guest cottages. The current owner, Houston-based businessman Pradeep Yohanne Gupta, purchased the estate in 2015 for $12.26 million. After owning the property for several years, the Guptas are selling due to their focus shifting back to Texas. The Montecito real estate market has seen significant growth, especially during the pandemic, attracting high-profile buyers like former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
