Samsung appears ready to shake up its flagship naming convention with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Pro. A new listing in the GSM Association’s IMEI database has seemingly confirmed that the regular Galaxy S26 model is being replaced altogether. Instead of launching the expected standard S26, Samsung is preparing to introduce the Galaxy S26 Pro as the entry point in its premium series.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Pro Appears in IMEI Database
The clearest indication of the shift came when a device labeled Galaxy S26 Pro, bearing the model number SM-S942U1, was spotted in the IMEI database. Previously, model number SM-S942 was widely associated with the standard Galaxy S26, suggesting that Samsung has pivoted from the original plan and may be retiring the “vanilla” variant.
Interestingly, an older listing under the Galaxy S26 name with a similar model number also exists. However, the newer S26 Pro entry appears to reflect Samsung’s updated product strategy.
What Does the “Pro” Branding Mean?
This change raises a crucial question: will the Samsung Galaxy S26 Pro simply be a rebranded standard S26, or will it feature notable hardware upgrades to justify the “Pro” title? As of now, this remains unconfirmed. However, industry insiders believe that if Samsung retains the “Pro” label, it may offer enhancements in camera, battery, or display technology.
Adding fuel to the speculation, there are also ongoing rumors that the Galaxy S26+ will be replaced by a model dubbed the Galaxy S26 Edge, signaling a broader naming shift across the lineup.
Expected Price Hike
Reports also suggest a potential price increase for the Galaxy S26 Pro compared to the Galaxy S25, which started at approximately $699 for the 128GB + 12GB RAM version. The 256GB variant of the S25 retailed around $730. If the S26 Pro features upgraded specs or a refreshed design, a modest price bump wouldn’t be surprising.
For now, Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the renaming or new features, but the growing number of database entries and leaks make it increasingly likely. With launch season approaching, more official details should emerge soon.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Pro is shaping up to redefine what we expect from Samsung’s flagship lineup in 2026. If the rumors hold true, Samsung may be phasing out the base model in favor of a more premium entry-level experience, potentially bridging the gap between high-end specs and standard pricing. Keep an eye out as more leaks and announcements roll in ahead of Samsung’s next major launch event.
