Robert Nagila Studied journalism at the London School of Journalism. Worked as a journalist for for 10 years. Currently covering Eastern DRC conflict, between the M23 rebels and Government forces which has displaced over 500,000 people. The rebels captured Goma the capital of Nortn Kivu province in Mid November 2012 but it does appear a deal has been reached that will see them withdraw their forces from the city and enter into talks with the government of President Joseph Kabila.
Somalia conflict, Mogadishu, Kismayu, where militants Al-shabaab have been fighting the transitional government for years. A new government assisted by African Union forces has managed to recapture most of the lost territory from the militants and is making inroads in other parts of the country.
Have also covered the referendum and independence in South Sudan including the fighting between the North and South when South Sudan turned turnedof the flow of oil to the north leading to a near economic collapse for both countries. UN and AU led Talks ended the fighting and several agreements reached between the two.
Nigeria: Boko Haram: a group seeking to turn Northern Nigeria into an Islamist State, the government appears unable to stamp out the violence as the group continues to wreak Havoc not just in the North but parts of the South as well.
Kenya: 2007 post election violence: covered this extensively after clashes broke out between rival groups contesting the elections of President MwaiKibaki. By the time the violence had died down more than 300,000 people were displaced and over 1000 killed.
Investigative journalism: exposed corruption in the Kenya government/ including the drug trade in the capital city of Nairobi.
Covered the Goldenberg scandal, Kenya’s largest corruption scandal touching on senior government officials in which the country lost billions of dollars.
