Samsung is gearing up for the official launch of the Galaxy Z Fold7, expected to be unveiled in July 2025. The first set of leaked renders has surfaced, giving us a clear look at its design changes and hardware upgrades. According to reports, Samsung is finally embracing the trend of thinner foldables, a race led by its Chinese competitors like Oppo’s Find N5.
A Slimmer Design, but Not the Thinnest Foldable Yet
The Galaxy Z Fold7 will reportedly measure:
- 4.5mm thick when unfolded
- 9.5mm thick when folded (including the camera bump)
- Around 9mm thick without the camera bump
For reference, the Oppo Find N5 measures 4.2mm unfolded and 8.9mm folded, making it the thinnest book-style foldable so far. While Samsung’s Fold7 won’t break that record, it’s getting closer to a sleek form factor that should be much easier to handle compared to its predecessors.
The unfolded dimensions of 158.4 x 143.1 mm suggest that Samsung is widening the aspect ratio of the cover screen, offering a more comfortable viewing experience and possibly reducing the narrow, remote control-like feel of past Fold models.
Slightly Bigger Displays but No Battery Upgrade
Samsung is making size adjustments to both screens:
- 8.2-inch inner display (book-style foldable panel)
- 6.5-inch cover display
Despite the slimmer profile and larger displays, Samsung hasn’t increased battery capacity, keeping it at 4,400 mAh—the same as the Fold6. This could be seen as a letdown, especially since competitors like Honor and Vivo are managing to fit 5,600 mAh batteries in similarly-sized foldable phones.
A 200MP Camera Upgrade and Snapdragon 8 Elite Power
The Galaxy Z Fold7 will reportedly feature a major camera upgrade, borrowing the 200 MP sensor from the Galaxy Z Fold SE. This will be accompanied by:
- 12 MP ultrawide camera
- 10 MP telephoto lens
For selfies, Samsung is keeping the same setup from the Fold6:
- 4 MP under-display camera (inside screen)
- 10 MP cover display camera
Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset will power the device, paired with 12GB RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
Final Thoughts: A More Refined Galaxy Fold Experience?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is shaping up to be a refined, thinner version of its predecessor, addressing key criticisms like bulkiness and screen proportions. However, it still falls behind some competitors in terms of battery capacity and extreme thinness.
With the official launch expected in July, we’ll soon find out whether the Fold7’s design upgrades and camera improvements make it a worthy upgrade in the ever-evolving foldable market. Stay tuned for more leaks and official details as they emerge!
