History of Ofafa Jericho High School

Ofafa Jericho High School was established in 1965 as a boys’ school by the Kenyan government, initially operating from the Science Centre in Ngara, Nairobi. In 1968, the school transitioned into a co-educational institution, admitting girls alongside the boys. However, the girls’ section was phased out in 1998, resulting in the establishment of Buru Buru Girls’ School. Since then, Ofafa Jericho has remained a boys-only school.

The school’s leadership saw a significant shift in 1970 when S.N. Kagiri became the first African headteacher, succeeding the founding headteacher A.S. Bhambra. Since then, the school has been steered by several capable leaders, with Mathews M. Linge currently serving as the principal. Under his leadership, the school achieved its highest mean score in KCSE history, with a significant number of students proceeding to universities both locally and internationally.
