Nissan Motor Co. has announced a recall of 173,301 vehicles in the United States following the discovery of a potential defect in the fuel pump system, which could cause engine stalling and raise safety concerns. The recall was reported by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday.
According to the NHTSA, the issue stems from the fuel tank temperature sensor harness, which may have been routed incorrectly during production. This misrouting can damage wires and cause a short circuit in the fuel pump fuse, potentially leading to engine failure while driving.
Affected Models
The recall covers three main vehicle types:
- Nissan NV200 Van (2013–2021)
- Nissan NV200 Taxi (2014–2017, 2019)
- Chevrolet City Express (2015–2018), manufactured by Nissan for General Motors
Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to contact their local Nissan dealerships to schedule inspection and repairs, which are expected to be carried out at no cost. The recall aims to prevent accidents that could arise from sudden engine stalls.
This announcement follows Nissan’s previous U.S. recall, which affected 443,899 vehicles due to engine failure concerns, highlighting the automaker’s ongoing efforts to address safety and reliability issues.
