The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria, established in 1964 as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Training Centre, is Nigeria’s premier aviation training institution. Located at Zaria Aerodrome, 75 km from Kaduna City in Kaduna State, it is uniquely positioned with four co-located schools:
- The Flying School
- The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering School
- The Air Traffic Services/Communications School
- The Aeronautical Telecommunications Engineering School
Zaria is a university town and hosts several educational institutions, making it a hub for academic and professional development.
Facilities
The aerodrome’s runway spans 1,646 meters, and the facility includes three hangars:
- Aircraft Maintenance Hangar: 38.64m x 31.8m x 4m
- Flight Maintenance Hangar: 38.6m x 84m x 4m
- Third Hangar: 110m x 80m x 18m

Objectives
The primary objectives of the College are to:
- Conduct civil aviation training for flight training and airport operations.
- Train personnel in the installation, maintenance, and operation of technical equipment aimed at enhancing operational safety.
- Provide training for the use and maintenance of equipment and facilities for technical research or routine use.
Academic Programs
NCAT offers over 65 standard and specialized courses, including:
- Private Pilot License
- Commercial Pilot License
- Flight Instructor Certification
- Instrument Rating
- Night Rating
The College began by offering four standard courses in piloting, air traffic services, aircraft maintenance engineering, and aeronautical telecommunications engineering. The first graduating class comprised 22 students, and by 1999, the total number of graduates reached 4,747. To date, NCAT has produced over 6,500 graduates in various aviation fields.
