Zambia is home to 20 national parks, each offering unique wildlife experiences and natural beauty. While some of these parks have maintained their facilities and animal populations, others have experienced neglect due to inadequate funding and infrastructure. Despite these challenges, a few parks stand out for their rich biodiversity and attract numerous tourists annually.

  1. Blue Lagoon National Park:
    • Location: Kafue Flats, west of Lusaka

  2. Isangano National Park:

    • Status: Lacking facilities and wildlife
  3. Kafue National Park:

  4. Kasanka National Park:

Administration of National Parks

The Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) manages Zambia’s national parks under the Ministry of Tourism, Environment, and Natural Resources. They inherited oversight from the former National Parks and Wildlife Service, which struggled with funding issues. DNPW faces the challenge of revitalizing neglected parks and balancing the demands of tourism with conservation.
