History of Mugoiri Girls High School
The roots of Mugoiri Girls High School trace back to 1902 when the Consolata missionaries arrived in Tuthu, Murang’a. They held their first mass on June 29, 1902, and soon after established a mission station. The school’s beginnings were humble, starting with the leadership of Sister Zaveria Pasqualina, who oversaw the education of the first 25 pupils in 1938.
However, due to the World War II East African campaign, the Italian-born nuns were taken into custody in 1940. After the war ended, the missionaries returned and resumed teaching, establishing Our Lady Consolata Mugoiri Girls High School in 1957.
The school moved to Murang’a in 1959, where it began to offer secondary education. Under the leadership of Sister Christiana Sestero, the school grew rapidly, with new stone-walled buildings replacing the earlier timber structures.
Mugoiri Girls continues to honor its roots with strong Catholic values, shaping the lives of many successful women, including Chief Justice Martha Koome and MP Sabina Chege.
