Kenya Power Identifies Typical Errors Made by Kenyans When Entering Tokens and Explains Solutions

KPLC Token

Kenya Power (KPLC) manages most of the country’s electricity transmission and distribution network, serving over 2.6 million customers. The Kenyan government owns a 50.1% stake, while private investors own the remaining 49.9%. The company is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

Paying Your Electricity Bill:

M-Pesa (Postpay):

ADVERTISEMENT
  1. Select “Pay Bill” from the M-Pesa menu.
  2. Enter the business number: 888888.
  3. Enter your Kenya Power account number (e.g., 123456-01).
  4. Enter the amount to pay (Shs. 100 to 35,000).
  5. Enter your M-Pesa PIN and confirm the details.
  6. You will receive an SMS confirmation.

It takes up to 48 hours for your payment to reflect.

Airtel Money (Postpay & Prepay):

ADVERTISEMENT
  1. Select “Airtel Money” from the menu.
  2. Choose “Make Payments” and select “Paybill.”
  3. For postpaid bills, select “Kenya Power Bill,” and for prepaid tokens, select “Kenya Power Prepaid.”
  4. Enter your account number and the amount to pay.
  5. Enter your Airtel Money PIN and confirm.
  6. You will receive an SMS confirmation.

It takes up to 24 hours for your payment to reflect.

Buying KPLC Tokens:

M-Pesa (Prepay):

ADVERTISEMENT
  1. Go to the M-Pesa menu and select “Pay Bill.”
  2. Enter the prepaid business number: 888880.
  3. Enter the 11-digit prepayment meter number.
  4. Enter the amount (Shs. 250 to 35,000).
  5. Enter your M-Pesa PIN and confirm the details.
  6. You will receive an SMS confirmation.

Airtel Money (Prepay):

  1. Go to the Airtel menu and choose “Money.”
  2. Select “Nickname” and enter “MYPOWER.”
  3. Enter the amount.
  4. Confirm the transaction and enter your 4-digit password.
  5. Enter your full 11-digit meter number under the “Reference” option.
  6. You will receive an SMS confirmation.

Checking Your Bill:

E-Bill SMS Service:

  1. Open a new SMS message.
  2. Type the first part of your account number (e.g., 123456).
  3. Send the message to 95551.
  4. You will receive an automatic reply with your account balance and due date.

E-Bill Email Service:

  1. Open a new email message.
  2. Type the first part of your account number in the subject line.
  3. Send the blank email to [email protected].
  4. You will receive a response with your balance and due date.
