The Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) is a chartered private university founded by the Methodist Church in Kenya. Situated within woodland on the northeastern slopes of Mount Kenya, five kilometers from Meru Town, KeMU’s development is rooted in the 1906 Methodist Church education policy, which led to the establishment of schools, industrial institutes, and colleges.
History
In 1987, the Methodist Church in Kenya formed a committee to establish a university in the region. In 1995, the Commission for Higher Education inspected the project, granting a Letter of Interim Authority in June 1997, which approved the establishment of KeMU. This authority facilitated the creation of academic programs, research, and postgraduate training. KeMU became a fully chartered university on 28 June 2006.
