Ribs are a classic comfort food, but cooking them doesn’t always have to mean spending hours in the kitchen. With the right techniques, you can prepare tender, juicy ribs in under an hour and a half, making them perfect for busy weeknight dinners or when you’re craving a quick, flavorful meal.

  • 1. How to Cook Ribs in the Oven Fast

    • Use High Heat for Faster Cooking
    • Uncover and Brown the Ribs
    • Serve and Enjoy

This guide explains how to cook ribs in the oven fast, ensuring they come out flavorful, moist, and satisfying every time. Whether you prefer beef or pork ribs, this method gives you delicious results without the wait.

1. How to Cook Ribs in the Oven Fast

Cooking ribs quickly requires a combination of preparation, high heat, and moisture control. Here’s a simple, reliable method that will leave you with tender ribs and a rich, glossy finish.

Prepare and Season the Ribs

The first step in making fast-cooked ribs is seasoning them well.

  1. Rinse the Ribs: Start by rinsing the ribs under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Remove the Membrane: Peel off the thin membrane on the underside of the ribs. This helps them cook more evenly and become tender.
  3. Season Generously: Season the ribs with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and any herbs you like. For extra flavor, you can brush on a marinade made from barbecue sauce, soy sauce, mustard, or a mix of oil and vinegar. Let the seasoned ribs sit for about 10 minutes while you preheat the oven.

The seasoning step is essential for infusing the ribs with rich flavor before cooking begins.

Use High Heat for Faster Cooking

To speed up cooking time without compromising tenderness, you’ll need to use high heat.

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 200°C (392°F), or 220°C (428°F) if you want to cook faster.
  2. Prepare the Baking Tray: Line a baking tray with foil and place the seasoned ribs on it.
  3. Cover with Foil: Cover the ribs tightly with another sheet of foil. This traps steam and helps the ribs cook faster while remaining tender.

The foil ensures the ribs cook in their own juices, making them tender and flavorful without drying out. Check the ribs after the recommended cooking time to make sure they are soft.

Uncover and Brown the Ribs

After the ribs have cooked through, it’s time to add a delicious glaze and finish them off.

  1. Remove the Foil: Take the ribs out of the oven and discard the foil.
  2. Brush with Glaze: Brush the ribs with barbecue sauce, honey, or a glaze of your choice. This adds sweetness and a glossy finish.
  3. Return to Oven: Place the ribs back in the oven, uncovered, for 10 to 15 minutes. This allows the sauce to caramelize and thicken.

For an extra crispy texture, you can switch on the grill for the last 3 minutes to add some char, but be sure to watch them closely to avoid burning.

Serve and Enjoy

Once the ribs are golden and glazed, remove them from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing. This helps the juices settle, keeping the meat moist and tender.

Serving Ideas:

  • With Rice or Pap: Serve the ribs alongside rice, maize meal (pap), or mashed potatoes for a hearty meal.
  • With Grilled Vegetables: Pair them with grilled vegetables for a complete dish.
  • As a Side: They also work great as a side dish to soups or stews.

Fast-cooked ribs are a quick and easy way to enjoy a delicious meal without spending hours in the kitchen.
