The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which hit the market just last week, has undergone an extreme durability test by YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything. The test results, however, suggest that the foldable device may not be as durable as Google claims, particularly when subjected to stress.
Nelson, known for his rigorous phone durability tests, put the Pixel 10 Pro Fold through his standard procedure. While the phone struggled in several areas, it was the bend test that ultimately led to its demise. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold passed through many of the tests, but during the bend test, the phone’s antenna lines snapped, exposing a significant weakness in the design—something we saw with last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold as well.
However, what happened next was unexpected. After the break occurred, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s battery exploded, releasing a dramatic cloud of smoke. This marks the first time Nelson has encountered an exploding battery during one of his foldable phone tests. While the phone was subjected to extreme conditions, such an event is highly unlikely to occur under normal usage, making this an isolated case rather than a widespread concern.
Pricing and Availability
The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is priced starting at $1,799 in the U.S., and €1,899 in Europe for the 256GB storage and 16GB RAM variant. There is also a higher storage variant with 512GB storage priced at $1,919 in the U.S. and €2,029 in Europe.
Despite this unfortunate battery incident, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold still offers a high-end, foldable experience and remains a premium option in the market. However, users should be cautious, as the durability test has highlighted potential vulnerabilities in the foldable design.
