The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, is set to make his first public appearance at the Harambee Stars vs Madagascar quarter-final match at Kasarani Stadium. This comes just hours after he missed a highly anticipated rally at Kamukunji grounds.
The party announced Gachagua’s attendance, informing supporters of his next moves following his return to Kenya on Thursday, August 21, after spending 42 days in the United States campaigning for his ‘Wantam’ agenda against President William Ruto.
The announcement received mixed reactions from Kenyans. Some welcomed his presence at the match, while others questioned his support for the national team, urging him to provide financial motivation similar to the President. One Kenyan commented, “Let him give something to the team; we are not seeing his motivational support to Harambee Stars.”
Gachagua’s return to Kenya was marked by drama as supporters gathered at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to welcome him. Plans for a public appearance at Kamukunji rally were reportedly thwarted, with the DCP claiming that police officers were deployed to block the event. DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala alleged, “They planned to apprehend him, but we said no.”
The match, scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m., is a crucial moment for the Harambee Stars as they aim to advance to the semi-finals of the continental tournament. Kenya has been granted permission to increase stadium capacity to 80 percent, up from 60 percent during their previous match against Zambia, promising a vibrant atmosphere for fans and officials alike.
