4. Capacity Building and Forestry Education

5. Research and Data Management

✅ Recommend policies on forest protection, trade, and conservation.
✅ Enforce rules and regulations on forest importation, exportation, and trade.

8. Community-Based Forest Management

✅ Approve credit facilities and technical training for community forest industries.
✅ Promote community participation through Community Forest Associations (CFAs).


Management of the Kenya Forest Service

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) is managed by a Board of Directors, which includes:

1. Chairperson

  • Appointed by the President.

2. Key Government Representatives

  • Principal Secretary, Ministry of Forestry (or representative).
  • Principal Secretary, National Treasury (or representative).
  • Inspector-General of National Police Service (or representative).
  • Director of Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) (or representative).

3. Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF)

  • Heads the daily operations of KFS.
  • Acts as secretary to the Board (without voting rights).

4. Four Additional Members Appointed by the Cabinet Secretary

  • One nominee from the Forestry Society of Kenya.
  • One representative from Community Forest Associations (CFAs).
  • One representative from the Forest Industry.
  • One representative nominated by the Council of Governors.
