Do I Need a Visa for the Philippines?

Visa-Free Entry

Citizens of the following countries can enter the Philippines without a visa for stays of up to 30 days:

  • EU Countries and many others, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.

Special Cases

  • Brazil and Israel citizens can stay visa-free for 59 days.
  • Citizens of Hong Kong and Macau are allowed visa-free entry for 14 days.

If you wish to stay beyond the permitted duration, you will need to apply for a visa or an extension.

1. Non-Immigrant Visas

These visas are for short-term stays and include:

  • Tourist Visa: For leisure, sightseeing, and short-term visits.
  • Business Visa: For business meetings, conferences, or other related activities.
  • Student Visa: For foreign nationals enrolling in educational institutions.
  • Work Visa: For those with pre-arranged employment in the Philippines.

2. Immigrant Visas

Issued to individuals intending to reside permanently in the Philippines, such as:

  • Quota immigrants (special skills beneficial to the Philippines).
  • Former Filipino citizens and their immediate family members.
  • Spouses and children under 21 of Filipino citizens.

3. Special Visas

For specific purposes:

  • Special Visa for Employment Generation (SVEG): For creating employment for at least 10 Filipinos.

How to Apply for a Philippines Visa

1. At an Embassy/Consulate

Steps for applying at a Philippine Embassy or Consulate:

  1. Find the relevant Embassy/Consulate: Locate the one responsible for your jurisdiction.
  2. Contact the Embassy: Obtain specific application requirements and guidelines.
  3. Prepare the required documents: Ensure all documents meet the requirements (see below).
  4. Submit the application: Visit the Embassy/Consulate or send the documents by mail (if allowed).
  5. Pay the visa fee: As instructed by the Embassy/Consulate.
  6. Collect your visa: Once processed, retrieve your passport with the affixed visa.

2. Visa On Arrival

Citizens of most countries can obtain a visa on arrival. Exceptions include nationals of specific countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, and India, among others. Requirements include:

  • Valid passport
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Sufficient funds for your stay

3. Online Visa Application

Currently, only citizens of Taiwan can apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) through the Manila Economic and Cultural Office website.


Philippines Visa Requirements

  3. Passport-size photos: Taken against a white background (35mm x 45mm).
