No, you do not need to apply for a visa in advance. Nationals of all countries are eligible for a free Maldives visa on arrival for stays up to 30 days, provided they meet specific requirements.

How to Get a Maldives Visa on Arrival

To obtain a Maldives visa on arrival, you must present the following documents to Immigration officers at the airport:

  4. Return/Onward Ticket:
    • Confirmed flight ticket to your home country or a third destination.
  5. Visa for the Next Destination (if applicable):
    • Ensure you meet the visa requirements for the next country on your travel itinerary.

Important Notes:

  • The 30-day duration of the visa on arrival is at the discretion of Immigration officers and may be less than 30 days.
  • Tourism-only: The visa on arrival does not permit work or business activities.

Can You Extend a Maldives Visa on Arrival?

Yes, you can apply for a visa extension at the Maldives Immigration Office in Male before your visa expires.

Requirements for Extension:

  1. Visa Extension Application Form (available online or at the Immigration Office).
  2. Proof of financial means to support the extended stay.
  3. Valid passport with at least six months remaining.

Extension Details:

  • Maximum stay allowed: 90 days in total.
  • Extension fee: MVR 750 (if total stay exceeds 30 days).
  • No fee if the extended total stay is under 30 days.

Other Types of Maldives Visas

1. Maldives Business Visa

For business purposes without local employment.

  • Sponsor: Your employer must secure an Employment Authorization before your arrival.
  • Required Documents:
    • Passport.

    • Passport-sized photo.
    • Health screening report from an authorized institution.
    • Work visa fee: MVR 50.
  • Restrictions: Working without an employment authorization is illegal.

3. Maldives Marriage Visa

Issued to foreign nationals marrying a Maldivian citizen.

  • Sponsor: Your Maldivian fiancé applies before your arrival.
  • Required Documents:
    • Permit Extension Form (IM23).
    • Passport.
    • Marriage certificate (original and copy).
    • Identity Card copy of the Maldivian national.
    • Passport-sized photo.
    • Expatriate health insurance.
    • Health screening report.
    • Fee: MVR 50 for the visa card.
  • Timeline: You must complete the visa process within 30 days of entering the Maldives.

4. Maldives Dependent Visa

For family members (spouses, children, or parents) of a Maldives visa holder.
