Jongheon Sim (pictured) has been named as the new vice president and chief communications officer of Korean Air, the flagship carrier of South Korea. Kikwang (KK) Lee, the previous chief of communications for the brand, has been replaced.
Sim will assume leadership of Korean Air’s public relations and communications strategy as part of his employment. In his new job, Sim is responsible for supervising and directing all national and worldwide public relations communications. This includes, but is not restricted to, media problem forecasting and analysis, media relations, public policy position authoring, and executive communication.
Over his 27-year tenure with the airline, Sim has had a range of roles in operations, communications, and external relations, all of which have contributed to his development of communication skills. Sim was appointed a managing director and the airline’s deputy chief communications officer in December 2022. He oversaw the airline’s digital communications and social media teams before taking this role.
Sim began working in airport operations in Incheon, Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York after joining Korean Air’s passenger business division in 1997. One of Korean Air’s most significant international hubs, JFK airport in New York, hired him in 2008 to oversee the airport operations team. Two years later, in 2017, he was made general manager and led the airport service team there.
Sim’s ability to communicate internationally also helped him land a job at the airline’s HRD center, where he oversaw staff training before to abroad assignments.
Korean Air claims that Sim’s broad-based communication abilities and significant knowledge in airline operations give the airline the experienced leadership it needs to thrive in the global aviation industry.
Vienna International Airport and Korean Air have strengthened their air freight collaboration through the recent signing of an agreement. By working together to launch joint marketing campaigns aimed at forwarders and clients, the collaboration hopes to capitalize on the expanding demand for air cargo between Korea and Austria and utilize Vienna International Airport as a key hub to draw in further demand.
