Bulambuli District is an administrative district located in the Eastern Region of Uganda, within the Bugisu sub-region. The district headquarters are based in Bulambuli Town, which also serves as its political and administrative hub.
Location
Bulambuli District is bordered by Nakapiripirit District to the north, Kapchorwa District to the east, Sironko District to the south, and Bukedea District to the west. The district headquarters lie approximately 32 km northeast of Mbale, the largest urban center in the sub-region.

The southern part of Bulambuli is mountainous and prone to flash flooding, while the northern areas are drier and face frequent water shortages, creating unique environmental and livelihood challenges.
Overview
Bulambuli District was carved out of Sironko District and officially became operational on 1 July 2010. Since its establishment, the district has been recognized for both its scenic landscapes and its vulnerability to natural hazards such as floods and droughts.

The district has recorded steady population growth over the past decades, with most residents living in rural communities and depending on farming for their livelihood.
Economic Activities
Subsistence farming and livestock keeping dominate the local economy. Farmers in the district cultivate both food and cash crops, including:
- Matooke (bananas)
- Cassava
- Rice
- Groundnuts
- Sorghum
- Millet
Animal husbandry supplements crop farming, though challenges such as limited water access and flooding affect agricultural productivity.
Prominent People
Bulambuli District has produced several notable Ugandans, including:
- Engineer Irene Nafuna Muloni – Electrical engineer, politician, and former Minister of Energy and Minerals, who also served as the Women’s Representative for Bulambuli in Uganda’s Parliament.
- Jairus Mukoota Wanyera – Disability rights advocate, founder of the Uganda Wheelchair Rugby Federation, and Executive Committee member of the African Spinal Cord Injury Network (AFSCIN).
