Formation and Early Beginnings (2006–2012)
A$AP Mob was formed by A$AP Yams, A$AP Bari, and A$AP Illz in Harlem. The group initially gained attention through its lead member A$AP Rocky, whose mixtape Live.Love.A$AP (2011) catapulted him into the mainstream.
In 2012, A$AP Mob released their debut mixtape, Lords Never Worry, showcasing the talents of A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, and other members. The collective’s rise continued with A$AP Rocky’s chart-topping debut album Long. Live. A$AP (2013), followed by A$AP Ferg’s solo album Trap Lord (2013), which solidified the Mob’s impact in hip-hop.
Cozy Tapes Series (2015–2019)
After the tragic death of A$AP Yams in 2015, A$AP Mob released their Cozy Tapes compilation albums as a tribute to their fallen member. The first installment, Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends (2016), featured collaborations with artists like Playboi Carti and Skepta. The second volume, Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy (2017), continued the group’s success with tracks like “Raf,” featuring A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, and Frank Ocean.
In 2019, the collective began working on Cozy Tapes 3, with A$AP Ant returning to the group after a brief hiatus. However, the third album has not been released as of 2024.
Tragedy and Losses
A$AP Mob has faced several heartbreaking losses over the years. A$AP Yams, a key figure in the group’s formation, passed away in 2015 due to an overdose. The loss of A$AP Press (2018) and A$AP Snacks (2020) further deepened the group’s struggles, and in 2020, Chynna, a former affiliate, passed away from a drug overdose. These tragedies have profoundly impacted the collective, though the group continues to honor the memory of their fallen members.
