Apple Intelligence Coming to Apple Watch with watchOS 12

The next major update to the Apple Watch is on the horizon, and it’s bringing Apple Intelligence on Apple Watch—sort of. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming watchOS 12 will include a handful of AI-powered enhancements as part of Apple’s broader push into generative intelligence across its ecosystem.

  • 🎨 Visual Refresh with Solarium Design Language

🤖 AI on Your Wrist: Reality vs. Branding

While the update will proudly carry the label “Powered by Apple Intelligence,” the truth is more subtle. The Apple Watch lacks the processing power to run AI models directly on the device. Instead, any generative AI functionality will rely heavily on cloud processing, meaning the device will offload most of the AI tasks to Apple’s servers.

This AI-lite approach might not deliver full on-device intelligence, but Apple clearly sees value in the branding. It signals the company’s intent to extend AI across platforms—even if the Apple Watch isn’t capable of doing the heavy lifting itself.

🎨 Visual Refresh with Solarium Design Language

Alongside AI enhancements, watchOS 12 will feature a subtle but polished visual overhaul. Drawing from Apple’s upcoming “Solarium” design language, users can expect:

  • Smoother animations
  • Updated widget styles
  • Refined interface elements for better visual consistency across devices

Though it’s not a dramatic redesign, the fresh look aims to bring the Apple Watch UI more in line with what’s coming to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS later this year.

🧠 Apple Intelligence Will Dominate WWDC 2025

The reveal of Apple Intelligence on Apple Watch is part of a larger WWDC 2025 narrative. Apple is gearing up to showcase major AI integrations across all major platforms. While the Watch won’t be the star of the AI show, it still serves as a proof point that Apple is committed to embedding smart features even in its most compact devices.

But this move also raises eyebrows. After the underwhelming rollout of Intelligent Siri, trust in Apple’s AI delivery is shaky. The company will need live demos and functional features to win back confidence at WWDC—mere branding won’t cut it.

📱 What This Means for Apple Watch Series 10

The Apple Watch Series 10 is rumored to debut later this year. While watchOS 12 may not introduce revolutionary new features, the combination of Apple Intelligence branding, modest AI tools, and UI enhancements might be enough to justify an upgrade for some users.

However, the real test will be Apple’s ability to execute. If the company wants users to buy into this new era of wearable AI, it must show functionality over flash—and deliver it on time.

Stay tuned for WWDC 2025, where Apple will not only reveal the future of its platforms but also whether its AI ambitions for wearables are grounded in reality or just more futuristic flair.
