Anthony Weiner net worth is estimated at $350,000, a steep decline from his former status as a high-profile U.S. Congressman. Once considered a rising Democratic star, Weiner’s political career imploded due to multiple sexting scandals, culminating in a federal conviction and prison sentence.

Early Life and Education

Born on September 4, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York, Anthony Weiner was raised in a Jewish household. His mother, Frances, was a high school math teacher, and his father, Mort, practiced law. Tragedy struck the family when Weiner’s older brother Seth was killed in a hit-and-run accident in 2000.

Weiner graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1981 before earning his BA in political science from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1985. He also participated in an exchange program at the College of William & Mary during his junior year.

Political Career Beginnings

After college, Weiner joined the staff of Congressman Chuck Schumer, eventually returning to Brooklyn to engage in local politics. In 1991, he won a newly created seat on the New York City Council, becoming the youngest councilman in city history at just 27 years old. He served for seven years, focusing on neighborhood issues and quality of life legislation.

Time in Congress

Weiner was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998, succeeding his mentor Schumer in New York’s 9th district. During his seven terms, Weiner promoted middle-class issues, supported Medicare for All, and established the Congressional Middle Class Caucus. He also sponsored the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act and earned a pro-choice voting record.

Despite his accomplishments, Weiner developed a reputation for volatile behavior, berating staff and throwing office furniture in anger. He had one of the highest turnover rates of any congressional office.

Scandals and Resignation

In 2011, Weiner accidentally tweeted a sexually explicit image, sparking a media firestorm. He later admitted to sending such photos to several women and resigned from Congress.

The trouble deepened in 2016 when it was revealed he had exchanged sexually explicit messages with a 15-year-old girl. This led to an FBI investigation, federal charges, and a 21-month prison sentence in 2017 after pleading guilty to sending obscene material to a minor. He also became a registered sex offender.

Mayoral Runs and Documentary

Weiner ran for New York City mayor in 2005, finishing second in the Democratic primary. He tried again in 2013, but his comeback collapsed under a new wave of sexting revelations involving the alias “Carlos Danger.” His campaign earned only 4.9% of the primary vote.

The 2016 documentary “Weiner”, chronicling his campaign and scandals, received critical acclaim and highlighted the dramatic fall of a once-promising politician.

Post-Congress Work

Following his resignation, Weiner founded a consulting firm, Woolf-Weiner Associates, and held consulting roles with Covington & Burling and MWW Group. He later became CEO of IceStone, a countertop manufacturer, serving until 2021.

In 2010, Weiner married Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton. The couple welcomed a son in 2011. After his second scandal, Abedin announced their separation in 2016 and filed for divorce in 2017. The couple chose to privately settle their divorce in 2018 to protect their son from further public exposure.

Conclusion

Anthony Weiner net worth reflects the dramatic decline of a once-prominent politician. From Capitol Hill to criminal court, his story is a cautionary tale of ambition, misconduct, and public downfall. Though he once held national influence, his legacy now remains tied to scandal more than service.
