How to Apply for Journalist Accreditation in Kenya: Online Application
Applying for accreditation as a local national journalist in Kenya can be done entirely online via the Media Council of Kenya’s (MCK) website. Here’s how the process works:

  1. Visit the MCK Website:
To start the process, journalists should visit the Media Council of Kenya’s official website and navigate to the accreditation portal. This portal is where you will begin your application.
  2. Register as a New Journalist:
Upon entering the portal, click on the “Journalist” tab and select “Register (New Journalist Only).” Fill in your personal details, such as your full name, date of birth, phone number, and email address. You’ll also need to upload a passport-size photograph.
  3. Verification and Login:
After submitting your registration details, a verification link will be sent to your email address. Click the link to verify your account, then log in using your email and password to continue the accreditation process.
  4. Complete the Application:
Once logged in, click on the “Membership Request” tab, then select “New Application.” Choose the type of accreditation you are applying for, such as National Journalist in a media enterprise. Complete all required fields, including your professional details and work history.
  5. Approval and Payment:
After submitting your application, it will be reviewed by MCK. The approval process typically takes around two days. Once approved, you will receive a confirmation email. At this point, your application status will change to “Pending Payment.” Follow the provided instructions to make the payment through Mpesa, ensuring that you wait for confirmation before proceeding with payment.
  6. Receiving Your Press Card:
After completing the payment, a PDF copy of your press card will be available for download from your MCK account. You can collect the physical press card from the MCK offices in Nairobi once it’s ready. Remember to bring proof of identification when collecting your card.
