The 0–10,000 Fast Pairs, commonly known as the 10K Fast Pairs, is a premier event at the Fall American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) North American Bridge Championship (NABC). The competition caters to players holding fewer than 10,000 masterpoints, combining speed and skill in one of bridge’s most engaging tournament formats.
The event emphasizes fast-paced play, with each table allowed 11 minutes per two-board round, in contrast to the standard 15 minutes permitted in most ACBL events. This creates an intense yet competitive atmosphere, rewarding precision, quick thinking, and teamwork.
History
The 10K Fast Pairs was introduced by the ACBL in 2015 during the Fall NABC in Denver, Colorado. It was designed to offer experienced but non-expert bridge players—those below the 10,000 masterpoint threshold—an opportunity to compete at a high level without facing the game’s elite players with unlimited points.
Since its inception, the event has grown in prestige, becoming a staple of the Fall NABC schedule and highlighting rising talent within the bridge community.
Format
The 0–10,000 Fast Pairs follows a four-session matchpoint pairs structure, consisting of:
- Two qualifying sessions, followed by
- Two final sessions for top-scoring pairs.
Pairs accumulate matchpoints across multiple sessions, with the highest overall totals determining the winners. The accelerated 11-minute rounds require strong partnership discipline and fast analysis, making the event as mentally demanding as it is rewarding.
